On 11 April, the hybrid event Berlin-Guangzhou Business Day took place successfully. A total of more than 150 guests, including representatives of local German industry associations, buyers and exhibitors, participated in the event online and offline.
In times of global raw material shortages and price increases, our SMEs are exposed to risks such as production interruptions or delivery delays. Mr. Andreas Jahn, BVMW’s Member of the Federal Executive Board and Head Politics and Foreign Trade, gave the speech “We in the BVMW’s Foreign Trade Department often receive enquiries and cries for help from our member companies who are desperately looking for suppliers for all kinds of components, parts, raw materials and other important products for their businesses. The COVID-19 crisis and more recently the war in Ukraine have exacerbated this already huge problem. The supply chain disruptions make life very difficult for German companies.
To support these companies in their time of need, our association is looking for different approaches. Very often, our partners abroad, such as trade associations or our more than 70 foreign offices around the world, help us. In China, we have the most BVMW representatives abroad. This fact again underlines how important cooperation with Chinese partners is, especially in foreign business. “
Ms. Yuanlin QIU, Counsellor of Commerce Attaché Embassy of the People’s Republic of China said “Bilateral trade between Germany and China has grown in the last three years despite the pandemic, and I think this is due to the active participation of SMEs on both sides.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Germany and China. 50 years ago, the annual bilateral trade volume between Germany and China was less than USD 300 million, less than half of today’s bilateral trade volume in one day. In 2021, the bilateral trade volume exceeded the €240 billion mark, and China has been Germany’s largest trading partner, Germany’s second largest export destination and Germany’s largest source of imports for six years in a row.”
Mr. Bing Xu, Deputy Director of China Foreign Trade Centre has further introduced China Import and Export Fair, “This year’s fair is full of highlights. There are more than 25,000 exhibitors. Among them, there are more than 4,300 enterprises with the titles of “Little Giant”, “National High-tech”, “Time-honored Brand”, “National Enterprise Technology Center”, “Single Champion of Manufacturing” and “Advanced Certification of the World Customs Organization”. Exhibitors uploaded more than 2.93 million exhibits in total, including more than 910,000 new products, 110,000 smart products, 480,000 green and low-carbon products, and 240,000 independent intellectual property products, all of which reached record highs. The convenience of online negotiation was further improved.”
SGS as an international commodity testing company and Bank of China Frankfurt Branch as a financial company introduced their service, which is much needed during international procurement. Enterprises and brands of (consumer) electronics industry and toy industry also presented their products and hope to cooperate in the future.
