This year’s European Shooting Stars presents a exciting world with 10 of the best shooting stars who have thrilled the jury with their outstanding and charming performances, whether it’s the role of a serial killer, social worker, priest, war reporter…In exactly one week time, the 23rd edition of EFP’s talent promotion programme will take place and present these up-and-coming raising stars from Europe from the 21-24 February 2020 during the 70th Berlin International Film Festival.
These shooting stars have all made their names in their home countries and their talents have been internationally acclaimed. Martina Apostolova from Bulgaria won the best actress award at numerous film festivals, such as Bari International Film Festival, Cottbus Film Festival of Young East European Cinema,Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival,Hong Kong International Film Festival, Tbilisi International Film Festival and more with her role as a mother in Irina (2018).
Estonian Shooting Star Pääru Oja was nominated as Actor of the Year at Edda Awards, Iceland with his performance in Mihkel (2018).
Victoria Carmen Sonne’s performance in Holiday (2018) received the Danish Bodil Award and a nomination for the Danish Film Award among others.
French actress Zita Hanrot received Cesáre award in France as the most promising actress in 2016, and won Globes de Cristal Awards nomination for her performance in School Life (2019).
Georgian actor Levan Gelbakhian received numerous awards from Bosnia, Spain to New Mexico and nomination for European Actor Award at European Film Festival for his performance in his debut film And Then We Danced (2019).
German Shooting Star Jonas Dassler starred as a serial killer in the newest film The Golden Glove (2019) by the renowned German director Fatih Akin, he was nominated for the German Film Awards. The film was amongst the competition films at Berlin International Film Festival.
Although Bilal Wahib from The Netherlands is this year’s youngest Shooting Star, he has already started his acting career at a young age. His new film Paradise Drifters (2019) will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in the Generation section.
The polish shooting star Bartosz Bielenia plays the lead in this year’s Oscar Best foreign film nomination Corpus Christi (2019) , his performance received international recognitions at several film festivals around the globe, including Polish Film festival, Stockholm Film Festival, Chicago Film Festival…
Joana Ribeiro from Portugal, has acted in a few TV series and has already worked with famous actor and producer, Antoine Fuqua and writer Terry Gilliam. She has amazed the jury by her performance in Crooked Lines (2019).
Ella Rumpf from Switzerland, has won the New Faces Award in Germany as the Best Newcomer Actress. Her versatility is well displayed in the award-winning film, Sympathy for the Devil(2018). She also starres in Berlinale Series Freud (2020).
